Services

Semper Fish & Guide specializes in providing full service trips and a total quality outdoor experience, tailored to meet the needs and desires of our clients. Although we specialize in full day guided float trips, walk-in wade trips or multi-day float trips are also available, as well as specialized instruction. We mainly fish the Stillwater and Yellowstone Rivers but with prior arrangements, trips can be made to the Bighorn River or other waters out of the Columbus/Stillwater Valley area. While we specialize in fly fishing, spin fisherpersons and non-fishing passengers are welcome as well. Basic fly fishing instructions are included and additional instruction or lessons can also be arranged.

If your party has more than two anglers, we can arrange for additional highly qualified guides and boats to accompany us. The primary craft we use for guided float trips is a 14’ self-bailing NRS Otter raft. This raft can comfortably accommodate two anglers, all of their personal belongings, extra gear and tackle, plus a cooler for lunch and beverages. Crafts of this type have proven to be the most versatile when floating sections of the Stillwater and Yellowstone Rivers in the greater Columbus area. We practice catch and release and incorporate other conservation measures and practices into our trips. References are available upon request and you can click here for testimonials from clients who have enjoyed guided fly fishing float trips with Semper Fish & Guide.

A typical day of fishing consists of meeting at a pre-arranged location and heading to one of the nearby rivers. Current fishing and weather conditions, as well as client preferences and experience, will determine the specific river and section to be floated for that day. We’re usually on the water fishing by mid-morning. At mid-day, we stop for a streamside lunch that also provides an opportunity for additional wade fishing or just a chance to relax and do some nature watching. Fly fishing continues through the afternoon and we'll arrive at a pre-arranged take out by late afternoon to early evening, based on the timeframe coordinated with the client at the start of the day. Return transportation is provided back to a pre-arranged location and concludes the day.

All of our trips provide our clients with "one stop shopping," so all you need to do to enjoy a great fly fishing experience is to show up with a fishing license (visit Montana FW&P to purchase your license online or you can purchase one at Stillwater Hardware in Columbus, MT). We provide the rest of the package, to include a full day of guided fly fishing, transportation, lunch, snacks and beverages, all flies and tackle, and use of fly rods and reels. We also provide waders wading boots in common sizes.

Gratuities

Gratuities for all guided trips are not included in the prices listed above. Tipping a guide is the personal choice of the client and based on the client's degree of satisfaction with the guide’s services. There is no set amount. Generally, in determining how much to tip, it should be reflective of your guide’s effort, helpfulness, attitude and courtesy, and that the guide's service was of an expected or even greater than expected quality. If you would like some guidance on determining a gratuity, we would be glad to help.
